ABOUT RACHEL
Rachel Hartley trained at the English Gardening School based at the Chelsea Physic Garden in 2002 and has been designing gardens ever since.
Based in South London, Rachel focuses mainly on residential gardens, creating new ‘outdoor rooms’ for families and professionals.
Space is always at a premium, especially in London, so it’s often about maximising the space available. “I have enjoyed designing a variety of gardens over the years and relish the challenge of a new project.”
Whilst adhering to the client brief and taking on board their style, surrounding architecture and landscape, it is also important to consider practical considerations. I enjoy the buzz when a garden is completed, and the clients can enjoy their new ‘outdoor room’.

Streatham Garden for Family and Wildlife
The clients requested a fire pit, so we sited it on Kota Brown limestone paving, and the wall can be used as informal seating.

The owners of this South London garden wanted to extend their entertaining and outdoor dining space
